My Coaching Story

Hello, I’m
Gareth James

My Story

I have lived in and around the Wrexham area all my life and played most of my amateur golf at Clays Golf. After a successful amateur career with Wales, winning the Welsh Boys Stroke Play title and a Bronze Medal at the ‘European Under 21’s Team Championships’, I turned professional in 2003 and became a fully qualified PGA professional in 2006 when I won the title of ‘PGA Assistant of the Year’.

After 10 very successful years as teaching professional at Clays, I moved to the ‘Lee Westwood Golf School’ in Cheshire where I looked after 40 budding professional golfers but when the opportunity arose to head back to Clays Golf as the Head Teaching professional, I jumped at the chance. Coaching has been my passion since turning professional and over the last 16 years I have attended many CPD courses in order to gain more knowledge.

This hard work was rewarded when ‘Wales Golf’ appointed me the Academy coach for North Wales in 2009. I was promoted in 2013 to the South and North Wales Regional Coach for both the boys and girls and I currently hold the title of ‘Wales Golf National U16 Coach’.

I am an authorized instructor of ‘The Golfing Machine’, a ‘NLP’ practitioner and qualified in physical profiling by the EGPI (European Golf Performance Institute).

On an individual basis, I have taught a wide array of clients including touring professionals, over 30 Welsh internationals, many county players, as well as both adult and junior recreational golfers.

I pride myself on being at the cutting edge of golf coaching and believe that I can improve anyone’s game, no matter what his or her ability.
